A washing machine outlet valve is a device that helps control water flow through your washing machine. The purpose of this small but important mechanism is to let the water in when you turn on the tap and then stop it from coming out when you turn off the tap. This prevents flooding and wasting both time and energy. Problems with these valves can present themselves, including leakage around the hose connection or broken washers inside.

Step One: Checking for Leaks

If your washing machine outlet valve leaks, you will want to address the issue as soon as possible. This can damage your flooring and also be a safety hazard. The first step in fixing a leaky valve is checking for leaks around the hose connection. If you find any, tighten the connector screws until they are snug. If that doesn’t work, try using the plumber’s tape on the threads of the connector screws before tightening them down again.

Step Two: Cleaning and Replacing Broken Washers

If your washing machine outlet valve leaks from inside, you will need to replace the broken washers. You will need to remove the valve from the washing machine to do this. Once removed, you can use a screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the cover in place. Be careful not to lose any small parts that fall out when you open them up! Next, locate the washers that need to be replaced and replace them with new ones. Ensure they are appropriately installed before putting the valve back together and reattaching it to your washing machine.
